MIND

On the ToK System, Mind (with a capital 'M') refers to the set of mental behaviors which are animal actions mediated by a nervous system that produce a functional effect on the animal-environment. Mental behaviors are either overt or covert. A fly avoiding a fly swatter, a rat pushing a bar or a human getting a drink of water are all overt mental behaviors; thinking and feeling are covert mental behaviors. Mind is not synonymous with consciousness or the capacity for mental experience, although sentience does emerge in the mental dimension of complexity.
